Long-time Saracen captain Brad Barritt will leave the club at the end of the 2019-20 season.

The 33-year-old has signed a contract extension to ensure that he is available for the rest of the Premiership campaign and the Champions Cup defense. Leinster is the opponent in the late quarter-finals.

Barritt, who joined in 2008, was an influential figure in the most successful phase of Saracens’ club history, but won’t stay in the championship at Allianz Park next season.

“I am pleased and pleased to announce that I have signed a contract extension until the end of the 2019/20 season,” said Barritt, who has led the last two Premiership and European Championship titles since taking office in 2016.

“But unfortunately I will also announce that this will be my last season at Saracens. I had an incredible stay of 12 years here.

“There were so many memories, so many experiences, but unfortunately all good things must come to an end.

“I am really excited to end the season. Having the Champions Cup as our goal and focus point for us is immensely exciting.

“I hope that I can also opt out and enjoy the last few months as a Saracen.”

Barritt, a five-time Premiership and three-time European Cup winner, has collected 257 appearances during his twelve-year stay.

The upcoming departure of the 26-man England international follows shortly after a similar announcement from Richard Wigglesworth, who will see the rest of the season at the relegation Saracens.

Mark McCall, the Saracen rugby director, has described Barritt as a “really great captain”.

Rugby director Mark McCall added: “Brad’s agreement to remain with the club until the end of the 19/20 season is excellent news.

“He has been a key figure in the development of our club for more than a decade and a really great captain for five years.

“We are very pleased that Brad will have the opportunity to end his time with us as he deserves.”

The Premiership is slated to resume on the weekend of August 15th. The Champions Cup starts in September.
