English footballer Andre Wisdom of second division Derby County, the club of Dutch coach Phillip Cocu, was stabbed during a robbery in Liverpool. Wisdom is in the hospital. The 27-year-old defender played eighteen times for Derby County in the Championship this season. He still had a starting spot in the home game against Reading (2-1) on Saturday.
“Andre has been the victim of an attack and theft,” the club said in a statement. “He was injured, so he is now in the hospital.” Derby County posted a photo of Wisdom on Twitter saying ‘Get well soon, Clear’.
As a teenager, Wisdom was included in the Liverpool youth academy, the club for which he also debuted as a pro. He later played for West Bromwich Albion, Norwich City and Red Bull Salzburg. Since 2017, the former English youth international has played for Derby County. Wisdom is said to have visited family in Liverpool when he was the victim of an armed robbery.
