Aaron Judge, Stanton can be ready by the opening day

Spring Training 2.0 does not convey the feeling of flowing optimism that suffocates the actual business in February when everything is new and the mood of a season in the big league is getting closer.

However, when it comes to Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Aaron Hicks and James Paxton, the Yankees are encouraged that the quartet can help them survive a regular season with 60 games over AL East.

“We are now very optimistic that he may announce that he would be ready for the opening day [July 23] the lineup will sound true, ”said GM Brian Cashman on Tuesday at a conference call on Judge that was diagnosed with a rib fracture in the upper right in March and was not ready for the original opening day on March 26. “He did all of his physical activities. Now it is important that the players repeat themselves, face the live pitching and see if it is in game form. I think there is optimism that he has a chance to be ready if everything works out in spring training 2.0. He has ticked all the boxes so far and it is optimistic that he may be ready for action by the opening day. ”

Due to a calf injury during field exercises in February, Stanton would not have been ready to play on March 26th. Now he could queue up for regular work at DH.

“If you shoot for the DH role by the opening day, I think that’s a possibility,” said Cashman of Stanton, who was limited to 18 games last season due to left bicep and right knee injuries. “Again the replay of the game and how it would look and be properly prepared in the three week situation in a legitimate field [spot] I think that’s still to be determined. And just like the strong physical requirement to operate the bases, even though he’s a DH, to make sure the conditioning is 100 percent complete. I think the next three weeks will determine that, but there is at least optimism that the DH spot could be in the game for us. ”

Cashman said Paxton is entering spring training 2.0 after recovering from back surgery in February and believes Hicks could be in midfield against the Nationals on July 23.

The GM was optimistic about Hicks, who underwent surgery by Tommy John after losing the ALCS to the Astros last October.

“I don’t think there are any concerns about the reconstruction of his Tommy John operation. I think it has to do more if he’s physically conditioned, ”said Cashman. “I am sure he has the feeling that he will be ready to play by the opening day. I think it is possible. ”

Cashman said he was optimistic that the foursome would be ready for the opening day, but didn’t want to say this with certainty before making promises he couldn’t keep.

“I give myself a little leeway and postpone how difficult this sport can be and how challenging it can be. Nothing is certain about all of these things, but we’re in a good health position, ”said Cashman. “Either they are dissolved or they dissolve. ”
