Terrell Davis He says TMZ Sports He is concerned Todd Gurley he may never regain his old form in Atlanta … saying that a knee-like problem in 1999 made him lose a permanent step.
“I’ve never been the same,” says the Denver Broncos legend.
Gurley snatched his ACL from college in Georgia in 2014 … but had no problems with his surgically repaired knee until 2019 – when Rams RB dealt with arthritis.
Gurley was still able to make it, but clearly he wasn’t the same guy … and after last season, the Rams immediately cut it on the decline of his game.
Fortunately for the queue, the Falcons believe he still has some juice left – they signed it right away – but Davis tells us he is skeptical Gurley may be an RB again in the future.
“They said he had an arthritic knee,” said Davis, who ripped off his ACL by playing for the Broncos in 1999. “And, I said, ‘I had it. I understand how it feels.'”
Davis was forced to retire before the 2002 season … saying that his arthritic knee made it impossible for him to feel like the same guy who had won a Super Bowl MVP a few years earlier.
“What happens is that you feel like a knee – as if you have enough knee swelling, just enough, to where it won’t stop you from running, but you don’t have full flexibility or mobility and you feel just like you’re just a second slower, “says TD.
“When you think you’re making a cut, it’s like it’s the signal from your brain to your knee, only a fraction of a second too slow comes when your knee doesn’t respond to it. And that’s what was happening to me.”
Don’t get him upset … Davis still thinks Todd has more than enough gas in his tank to be an effective NFL RB – he’s just wary of the prospects that TG will return to superstar status.
“If he could get out of this year and have the attitude that,” I want to show everyone that they’re wrong “- which I feel Todd will do – he might have a really good year.”
