United is one of the interested parties and is said to have made an offer to the Netherlands international, as they club ‘do their best’ to sign the sought after 22-year-old.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was keen to sign Van de Beek in January and the Dutchman is high on the United’s wishlist, alongside Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez.
Van de Beek is under contract at Ajax until 2022 and is valued at around £50million by his club.
United might be dragged into a bidding war, but Solskjaer has made the addition for an elite midfielder his priority in the next transfer window.
The Manchester club’s bid to sign Van de Beek might depend on the future of Paul Pogba.
Zinedine Zidane wants to bring the Frenchman to Real and would presumably halt efforts to land Van de Beek if United sanctioned Pogba’s move to Spain.
It is currently unclear when the next transfer window might be, as the current football season has been suspended.
The Premier League have extended the campaign indefinitely due to the coronavirus pandemic and there are talks to delay the opening of the summer transfer window or extend it until January.
Solskjaer is planning some big signings for United, with the club linked with Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho.
