XFL scores week 2, highlights: Roughnecks wins the BattleHawks thriller, Renegades beats Wildcats

It took a while for Sunday’s action in week 2 of the XFL to really start. But once it started, there was an explosion of points which led to a fun ending for both games.

In the first game, the Dallas Renegades emerged with a 25-18 win over the Los Angeles Wildcats, but the game didn’t evolve into a high-scoring affair until the fourth quarter. In the first half, the points were at a premium and the turnover was abundant. The game was tied 3-3 in the half-time, and the Forsaken brought a 6-3 lead in the fourth quarter before L.A. eventually broke the end zone with a six-yard touchdown pass from Josh Johnson to Nelson Spruce. From there, the game took off. The Renegades responded with two own touchdowns through Cameron Artis-Payne on a 21-yard run and Landry Jones on a three-yard pass to Donald Parham. The Wildcats needed only one game to fight back when Johnson hit Spruce again for a touchdown, but their defense was unable to find the stop they needed. Once again, Artis-Payne broke free from a touchdown and Dallas scored his first win of the season.

In the second game of the day, the Houston Roughnecks beat the St. Louis BattleHawks, 28-24, behind an extraordinary attempt by quarterback P.J. Williams, who sent in three touchdown passes. The Roughnecks took an initial lead before resisting a wave of BattleHawks in the second half. Houston, at 2-0, is at the top of the XFL rankings in the West Division.
