“Make these trials a healthy start” : faced with the unprecedented wave of revelations of cases of sexual violence which is shaking French sport, the Minister of Sports, Roxana Maracineanu, sounded the load during the national convention devoted to these abuses, Friday, February 21 in Paris.

Roadmap in May
Presented as a “Information and mobilization time” by the ministry, before a collective reflection phase which will lead to a roadmap “Sometime in May”, however, the event was an opportunity to present initial measures.
The integrity check, that Roxana Maracineanu “Intends to generalize”, for all sports volunteers, will initially be extended to the French Football Federation (FFF), she announced.
“The experimentation in Center-Val de Loire is coming to an end, we will learn from it before being generalized at the level of the French Football Federation. With two million licensees, that will give us a good indicator of how it can happen. ”said the minister.
An experiment in respectability control – a device intended to check criminal records, applied to volunteers – was launched last fall; it is due to end in April in the regional football league of Center-Val de Loire.
Asked about the implementation schedule, Roxana Maracineanu, who said earlier “Hear generalize” this control “To all federations”, did not provide any details. In the morning, the Minister of Justice, Nicole Belloubet, had however announced a meeting “On planning the generalization of good repute checks” scheduled for March 25.
Several presidents of federations absent
Roxana Maracineanu also announced the appointment with immediate effect of Inspector General Fabienne Bourdais as Ministerial Delegate responsible for combating sexual violence in sport, to ensure “Works management”.
She also said that the listening cell set up within the ministry’s services for several months would be enlarged from three to six people.
“It was essential today that the sports movements, the federations, that the authorities and associations take their share of responsibility, just like the State and the territorial and municipal collectivities”, said Roxana Maracineanu. “I thank the victims, the sportsmen who testified, from the bottom of my heart. “
The Minister of Sports took advantage of this day of exchanges, which brought together several hundred actors from the world of sport and the associative fabric, to send a clear message to the federations and their presidents, in particular to those who have dried.
“The presidents who were not there for X or Y reason, I hope they will be there tomorrow”, she said. “It is not a problem of women, it is a problem of authorities, and of high authorities. ” With the approach of the federal elections, which will follow the 2020 Olympics, Roxana Maracineanu urged future candidates to make the fight against sexual violence a central theme of their project.
French sport has been affected since the end of January by an unprecedented wave of revelations of cases of sexual violence, in different disciplines: figure skating, football, horse riding, climbing, skiing, and even athletics.
