Dani Parejo believes that Atalanta at San Siro will be “just as complicated” for Valencia as their Champions League trips to Chelsea and Ajax.
The first leg of the Champions League round at 16 starts on Wednesday at 20.00 GMT.
“We miss players, not for the first time this season, but we win because we play as a team and not on an individual level,” said the midfielder in his press conference.
“This is a very difficult game and we are talking about a really strong team, managed by an excellent club. We won at Stamford Bridge, we beat Ajax, so tomorrow will be just as complicated. This time he played on two legs, though.
“We overtook our group in the Champions League and could be drawn with anyone in Round of 16. Atalanta came in second because they had Manchester City in their group.
“We will not underestimate anyone, even if it is clearly a less complicated device than others we could have had. Atalanta is experiencing an extraordinary season, having scored 63 goals in 24 Serie A games, beating Roma last week, so they will be tough opponents. “
This is the first campaign of the Atalanta Champions League, so in theory Valencia should have more experience.
“I have been taught that we must always go on the field trying to win, but we are solid on the home ground and we must keep our eyes on the prize.
“We have more experience now, when we reached the Europa League semifinal, we won a final against Barcelona, lost only to Real Madrid.”
