The second stage of the Vuelta a Asturias 2020 Cycling Tour will leave Candás. This was announced yesterday by the mayor of Carreño, Amelia Fernández; the manager of the sports council of Carreño, Manuel Muñiz; and the organizer of the Vuelta a Asturias, Cristina Álvarez Mendo, accompanied by cyclists and cyclists from Carreño, as well as members of the local cycling school and different clubs. The stage will be on May 2, on a Saturday, when Candás is expected to be a hotbed of people again, as it happened two years ago, when he hosted a departure from a stage of the Tour of Spain.
The mayor said that the next Sports information commission will consider that the departure is made at the Candás pier, as happened two years ago. Cristina Álvarez pledged that since the organization of the Tour of Asturias, Carreño be kept on the agenda so that the council will host tests in future editions. “You can do a time trial,” he said as an example of his interest in continuing the collaboration with Carreño. “We arrived with the intention of staying,” Alvarez Mendo added.
May 2 will be the first time in the 62-year history of the Vuelta a Asturias that Candás hosts an exit from this sporting event. On other occasions, cyclists passed through the council on the way to other destinations in Asturian geography. The agreement between the organization of the Tour of Asturias and the City of Carreño was materialized in the last edition of Fitur, as the parties commented.
The mayor of Carreño expects that on May 2 more of the same will happen as at the exit of the Vuelta a España two years ago, which was a revulsion for local businesses because of the crowd that stood out in Candás to see closely the Stars of the cycling world.
