Flashback: In March 2019, in the middle of a relegation battle, Schneider followed Christian Heidel, who had resigned. Schneider, previously head of sports at RB Leipzig under Ralf Rangnick, immediately tried to calm the club down. After the successful relegation, Schneider then left time for the most important personnel of his previous Schalke time: He brought David Wagner as head coach.

In addition to coach Wagner, Schneider made other clever transfers in the summer with technical director Michael Reschke. Ozan Kabak was brought in by VfB Stuttgart, Benito Raman by Fortuna Düsseldorf, Markus Schubert by Dynamo Dresden, and Jonjoe Kenny and Juan Miranda by FC Everton and Barca respectively.

The 19-year-old Kabak made twelve league games, scoring three goals. After initial difficulties, Raman shone with four goals and three assists. Schubert, who was brought free of charge, last looked after the box for the red-blocked Nübel and is considered its legitimate successor. Kenny was a right-back in the first half of the season and convinced in his 17 appearances (one goal, two assists).
Schneider now also satisfies the royal blue fans with his actions on the transfer market in winter. The Stuttgart-based company now reacted to the misery in the defense with the ingenious Todibo transfer.
Hats off that Schneider remained persistent in the negotiations with the Barca bosses and ultimately secured a purchase option in the amount of 25 million euros.
Schneider wants to solve the storm problem with the attacker Michael Gregoritsch, who was borrowed from Augsburg. Another good transfer that Schalke can still enjoy. Mark Uth (loan to Cologne), Steven Skrzybski (loan to Düsseldorf) and Fabian Reese (transfer to Kiel) were also handed in.
