Two places, 350 km apart, but the same emotion. And the same respect for Nathaël Julan, who died at just 23 years old on January 3 of a road accident near Pordic (Côtes-d’Armor). But above all, no controversy. While Wednesday, the family of the player of Guingamp had published a press release to prohibit the arrival of representatives of the Breton club – Bertrand Desplat ( Editor’s note: the president ), Sylvain Didot (the coach) and his staff, Laurent Schmitt (the ex-agent of the player), Yannick Gomis (Guingamp player), as well as two local journalists -, this Thursday was devoted to tributes, respect and recollection.
This Thursday morning, Notre-Dame du Havre cathedral was also too small to accommodate his family, relatives and the many anonymous who came to attend the young footballer’s funeral and pay him a last tribute. The emotion was strong when his partner Marina, expressed: “I hope to have the strength that characterizes you to get out of it.” If it were to be done again, I would not change anything in our history ”.
500 people in Roudourou
To celebrate his son, a music fan, his father sang and caused applause in the audience. Representatives of the Le Havre club were also present, as was a delegation from En avant Guingamp, where he had been playing since January 2018, as a striker. But without the presence of the Guingampais stigmatized by the family of Nathaël.
Several hundred kilometers away, 500 people had also gathered under a tent near the Roudourou stadium in Guingamp to pay tribute to their player. President Bertrand Desplat notably indicated that “our main duty today is above all a duty of memory”. Nathaël Julan will rest in the Octeville-sur-Mer (Seine-Maritime) cemetery.
