With only 19 years facing his second season as a professional
The Belgian Remco Evenepoel (Deceuninck Quick Step), European time trial champion and with 5 wins in his first professional season with only 19 years, will face his first major challenge in the greats by announcing his debut in the next 103 edition of the Tour of Italy .
After making the leap from youth to professional, the young flamenco talent born in Schepdaal announces its premiere in the great three-week events, so he will be at the start of the pink race in Budapest on May 9.
The winner of the San Sebastian Classic, Tour of Belgium and runner-up of the World time trial, is excited about his first big challenge.
“I really want to run the Giro d’Italia, a huge and prestigious event that captures one’s imagination. I am happy that the team has trusted me and provided me with this incredible opportunity.”
For the golden youth, it will be “a great experience to see how I will feel and face the three demanding weeks of racing, with the obstacles that lie ahead, but at the same time, I am very excited to discover the Giro”.
Evenepoel will begin his season in two weeks, in the Tour of San Juan (Argentina), where he debuted as a professional a year ago.
The Giro d’Italia will take place between May 9 and 31 and will have three time trial stages and the mythical ascents of Etna, Monte Bondone, Madonna di Campiglio, Passo dello Stelvio, Colle dell’Agnelo, Montgenèvre, Col d’Izoard and Sestriere.
