Fenerbahçe Istanbul announced Thursday the resignation of its French sports director Damien Comolli, amid tensions with supporters and management, coupled with financial and sporting difficulties. While his contract ran until 2021, the resignation of the former sports director of Saint-Etienne, Tottenham and Liverpool, among others, comes after he was harshly criticized by the demanding public of Fenerbahçe for last recruitments made by the club. The arrival in January of Guinean international defender Simon Falette, on loan from Frankfurt, seems to have been the last straw. Faced with a barrage of criticism and accusations of links to the company Rogon, the agency that manages Falette’s career, Comolli opened a Twitter account last week to threaten the prosecution of the authors of these “shameless lies”. His flight of tweets, in which he seemed to distance himself from the recruitment of Falette, displeased President Ali Koç, according to the Turkish press.
Fenerbahçe currently occupies fourth place in the Turkish championship.
