Dakar: Four KAMAZ in the first four places of the 11th stage

The penultimate day of the Dakar rally in the freight classification turned out to be extremely successful for the Russian KAMAZ-master team. Her racers at the end of the day took four first places, finishing within five minutes.

Andrei Karginov won his sixth victory at Dakar 2020, who thus strengthened his leadership in the general classification. A minute and a half, Dmitry Sotnikov lost to him. Anton Shibalov lost a little more than three minutes – now his lag in the overall standings has reached almost 40 minutes. The fourth finished Eduard Nikolaev, who is already out of the classification.

At the end of the day, Sotnikov returned to fourth place in the classification. This was made possible thanks to the problems of Ales Loprais: the Czech “buried” between 108 and 162 km and lost about 20 minutes. He spent about two hours to solve the problems later.

Despite the problems of yesterday, the third place in the overall standings is maintained by the leader of the MAZ-SPORT team, Sergey Vyazovich. At the tenth stage, at his MAZ, an air pumping tube was broken into one of the wheels, the system had to be disconnected. In addition, already at the bivouac, the team found that steel sheets burst on the rear springs. All this cost Vyazovich more than 40 minutes. Today he lost another 12, and in the general classification, he has been losing for almost two hours. At the same time, he is almost an hour ahead of Sotnikov, so at the final stage the alignment of forces is unlikely to change.

The final start of the race is waiting for the Dakar 2020 participants on Friday: the distance of the twelfth stage along the route Harad – Kiddia will be 447 km, 374 of which will be held as part of the special stage. The rally caravan will travel west of Saudi Arabia and will finish 40 km from the capital of the Kingdom of Riyadh.
