COLUMBIA, S.C. – Freshman Jermaine Couisnard hit a 3-pointer while the buzzer sounded and South Carolina rallied by 14 points in the second half to stun 10 Kentucky 81-78 10 on Wednesday night.
Couisnard had 26 points in his career, including his game winner who had bet on the Gamecock (9-7, 1-2 Southeast Conference). When he went through the net, Couisnard and his teammates ran on the pitch to celebrate while the fans made a mistake.
Moments earlier, Immanuel quickly fired a 4.1 second lead that brought things to 78. He quickly led Kentucky (12-4, 3-1) with 20 points.
Keyshawn Bryant scored 15 points for the Gamecock, which had four double-digit players.
Kentucky drove less than five minutes 14 in the second half and still had a 54-41 lead over EJ Montgomery’s two shots with 11:41 remaining.
It was then that Justin Minaya started a 27-14 run in the next seven minutes which ended with Couisnard’s basket out of the glass to tie things to 68-everyone.
After Ashton Hagans got Kentucky back on its feet with two wrong hits, Minaya responded with a 3-pointer that sent the crowd into pandemonium.
Minaya added two more baskets between a unit of A.J. Lawson and South Carolina were 76-71 ahead with 1:46 in the end.
Kentucky drew one last time on Quickly’s sweater after Lawson missed two wrong throws with a chance to end the game.
South Carolina ended a three game losing streak against Kentucky. The last five gamecock wins from the Wildcats since 2009 have come to the Colonial Life Arena.
It was impossible to imagine the victory of South Carolina after a terrible first half in which he missed his first 10 shots and fired less than 25 percent from the field.

Kentucky: The Wildcats had four double-digit players and seemed to have the game under control. But they have lost eight of their last 10 hits.
South Carolina: The Gamecocks entered this into a three game losing streak that included a terrible home defeat against Stetson. But the upside is that they beat a couple of top-10 teams. They passed Virginia on December 22nd.
Kentucky plays Arkansas on Saturday.
South Carolina will travel to Texas A&M on Saturday.
