Conor McGregor admits he was drinking the whole UFC fight 229 weeks before facing Khabib Nurmagomedov

Conor McGregor admitted to having drunk during UFC 229’s fighting week before his main fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov.

There have been many claims in recent months as to why exactly McGregor was so out of the ball, or at least he looked that way, when he went on tiptoe with “The Eagle” to Las Vegas. While the Irishman may focus his attention on Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone this week, it certainly seems that Khabib is still at the forefront of his mind.

During a recent interview with ESPN’s Ariel Hewlani, McGregor delved into some of the things that went wrong before the fight.

When asked when he had last drunk, this was his answer.

“A couple of months ago (since I drank),” said McGregor (via MMA Junkie). “Three or four months ago maybe. … The last time I drank during the week of fighting (for Nurmagomedov). “

McGregor then delved into the UFC 229 combat camp.

“I had people locked up in a hotel from that part of the world (Dagestan / Russia), and I played and organized a fight and played them and they went down to the gym and argued at full speed – no head protection, small gloves,” he said McGregor. “A scuffle. I would win, I would make a war, I would win and I would throw the boy down and then I would go to celebrate. Then I would be back in three days – not doing what I should have done, not living the life I should have been.”

“I’m not going back there,” said McGregor. “I’m in a better place. I made mistakes and I was man enough to admit and correct them, and that’s what I did. I may not be perfect, but with good sleep and a full stomach, I’m damned close.”
