KUBRAT PULEV confirmed through his official Facebook page that he will fight Anthony Joshua in Istanbul in May.
The 38-year-old has published a link to an article that appears to claim that the long-awaited fight will take place at the Vodafone Arena, home of the Turkish football team Besiktas.
The pair is expected to fight this year, with Pulev the mandatory challenger for Joshua’s IBF heavyweight title.
But SunSport understands that while the talks are ongoing, any confrontation between the couple will only take place in the United Kingdom, the United States or Saudi Arabia.
No word has come from Joshua’s camp today about the fight.
The pair had to collide at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium in October 2017, but the Bulgarian had to retire from an injury and was replaced by Carlos Takam.
Joshua is thought to be keen to return to London for his next fight.
And it was revealed last month that the new Tottenham Hotspur stadium had emerged as a true contender to host the match.
The state-of-the-art facility was opened in April 2019, and while it would be the stadium’s first boxing event – it hosted the NFL – and is expected to host Rugby Union and a concert later this year.
Pulev, known as “The Cobra”, has an impressive 28-1 record in his career.

But that loss came in her only title fight – being defeated by Wladimir Klitschko in Hamburg in 2014.
Pulev’s most recent victory was over Rydell Booker in California on November 9th.
And it seems that Pulev won the race to become Joshua’s next opponent, with WBO challenger Oleksandr Usyk forced to wait until the end of the year.
