We are now in mid-January and with Liverpool already doing some early deals in the Takumi Minamino-shaped winter transfer window, Reds fans are wondering if Jurgen Klopp will add new additional faces to his ranks at Anfield.
Here is a look at the latest offers on the tatting track.
Kylian Mbappe. You may have heard from him. An attacker on the right side is not sloppy and has an eye for a goal.
In 2018, he became the only teenager other than Pele to score twice in a World Cup match and then the only teenager other than Pele to score in the final while helping France defeat Croatia 4-2.
Mbappe then followed up with 39 goals in all competitions for Paris St Germain last year and added 19 more goals in 20 games so far this season.
Where is it?
There has been a stir going on online among Liverpool fans to try and convince the player to join the Reds in what has been dubbed “Mbappe2020” with many supporters convinced that the Parc des Princes will change to Anfield.
Suggestions that the Liverpool deal with Nike would push a big name to sign apparently fueled speculation, but the express quotes French football expert Julien Laurens insisting that the 21-year-old’s future is moving away from the Merseyside.
Asked if Mbappe would leave PSG in the summer, he said, “It hurts me to say it, but there is a possibility, even a great possibility.
“PSG is really pushing hard to sign Mbappe for a new deal.
They want to insure it for at least a year.
“But there is a possibility that it will go in the summer.
“This is his dream, playing for Real Madrid and playing for Zinedine Zidane.
“Will it happen at some point, will it happen this summer? I hope it will still be a year. “
So it looks like Mbappe may be on the move this summer, but a move to Liverpool may not be on the agenda.
The reds are probably in their greatest position of strength when it comes to trying to attract big names, as European champions are reigning, world champions just crowned and currently unbeaten at the top of the Premier League as they seem unstoppable in their seeks to be champions of the league for the first time in 30 years.
However, as well as the problem of where Mbappe, who moved from Monaco to the French capital for € 180 million in 2018 after a season on loan, would fit into Liverpool’s bow line – which could be sacrificed between Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino? – Jurgen Klopp himself went to the disc to pour cold water on those rumors.
He said: “I don’t think there is a club in the world that can buy Kylian Mbappe from PSG, that’s it. And we are involved in that too.
“We can’t do it, it’s that easy. OK, from a sporting point of view, there aren’t many reasons not to sign it, which player it is.
“But it’s obviously about money. No chance. Absolutely no chance, sorry for killing that story! “
