Van Beijnen leaves FC Barcelona six months after a wonderful transfer

Mike van Beijnen has already left FC Barcelona six months after coming to Catalonia. The twenty-year-old Dutchman embarks on a Turkish adventure.

Barcelona is reporting on Tuesday through the official channels that the club has reached an agreement with Gençlerbirligi on a transfer from Van Beijnen. The switch will become official on January 1, 2020. Gençlerbirligi is currently in 13th place in the Turkish Süper Lig.

Van Beijnen made the switch from NAC Breda to FC Barcelona last summer, where he ended up in the second team, active in the Spanish third division. Van Beijnen was in eight league games on the bench, but in the end he did not play a minute for the Catalans.

The 20-year-old right back did not play for a minute in the Breda main force before his move from NAC to FC Barcelona, which made the transfer remarkable. According to AD journalist Sjoerd Mossou, the transfer became possible because Van Beijnen is the stepson of Ali Dursun, Frenkie de Jong’s agent. Van Beijnen had a fixed lump sum payment of one hundred million euros in his contract, but Gençlerbirligi will not have paid that to Barcelona.
