- 1. Mikaela Shiffrin (USA) 1: 48.31
- 2. Petra Vlhova (SLK) +0.61
- 3. Michelle Gisin (SUI) +1.72
After winning the giant slalom on Saturday, Shiffrin followed suit. The 24-year-old American also confidently won the 3rd slalom of the season and celebrated her 64th World Cup victory. For 23 slaloms, the winner has been either Shiffrin (19 successes) or Petra Vlhova (4). The Slovakian could no longer make up for the mortgage from the first run (0.26 seconds) and had to settle for second place. “I had to give 110 percent,” said Shiffrin.
Michelle Gisin completed the podium sensationally. The Engelberg woman benefited from the team mate Wendy Holdener and inherited the podium. In the second round Gisin made no mistake and was in the slalom in the top 3 for the first time. The 26-year-old could hardly believe her luck and cried tears of joy at the finish.
Wendy Holdener experienced a bitter race. The Swyzer took the lead by 15 hundredths ahead of Gisin. However, the slow motion revealed that she had threaded in the 2nd run. “Sch …. e”, it escaped her in the leader box, which she finally had to leave after a long wait.
The other Swiss women
Aline Danioth showed two appealing runs and achieved her best career result with 7th place. To date, her 10th place in the Flachau slalom had been the only top ten result in the World Cup in January 2019.
Charlotte Chable was on course for the second round, but then made a gross mistake shortly before the finish. Elena Stoffel missed the cut.
Mélanie Meillard contested her first race since the cruciate ligament rupture in her left knee in February 2018 and two operations. The 21-year-old from Valais started early, but was overjoyed that she could even participate. “I had won everything right from the start,” she said after her out.
It continues like this
Two slaloms are now on the program for the technicians (January 4 in Zagreb, January 14 in Flachau). In between, the departure and the combination is scheduled in Altenmarkt.
