The favorite Comanche snatched the victory in the legendary Sydney-Hobart sailing race on Saturday after having taken over his opponent InfoTrack in delicate conditions. The victorious crew covered the 628 nautical miles of the race in 1 day, 18 hours, 30 minutes and 24 seconds, far from the record set by this same boat in 2017 (1 day, 9 hours, 15 minutes and 24 seconds). While the departure in Sydney bay had benefited the Hong Kong sailboat Scallywag, the fight finally came down to a duel between Comanche and InfoTrack, less than 45 minutes separating the two sailboats on the finish line. It is the second victory, after 2017, for Comanche, a sailboat of French design and American manufacture. More than 150 ships had started Thursday for the 75th edition of the event.
