Exceptional entertainment, an American show and the best players in the French basketball championship: the traditional All Star Game French version is ready to ignite the AccorHotels Arena this Sunday from 4 p.m.
For this 28th “match of the stars”, the French selection will aim for a third victory in a row against the selection of the best foreign players – mostly American – in front of nearly 16,000 people.
“The craze of the All Star Game proves that the spectators impatiently await each year this exceptional show”, welcomes the president of the National Basketball League Alain Béral.
Antoine Diot leads the French
The French will be led by the experienced Antoine Diot (Asvel) – already four participations in the All Star – who will ultimately not be accompanied by his teammate villeurbannais, Edwin Jackson. The former tricolor international is sick and was replaced in the five major by Antoine Eito (Le Mans), captain on Sunday. The Dijonnais Alexandre Chassang joins the French selection on the bench. Damien Inglis (Strasbourg), Isaïa Cordinier (Nanterre) and Yannis Morin (Châlons-Reims), all three novices at this level, complete the French major five.
Opposite, the foreign selection has also undergone some changes in recent days: Zack Wright (Bourg), initially designated captain, and Semaj Christon (Limoges), best passer in the championship (7.8 assists per game), had to forfeit, wounded. The leader Dee Bost (Monaco) appeared in the five major, and his teammates Eric Buckner and Norris Cole were summoned to take their places on the bench.
The foreign selection will also be able to rely on Chris Horton (Cholet), second best scorer in the Elite championship (18 points on average) and back on the court after having undergone appendicitis surgery at the end of November.
Three hours of show
Beyond the result, the players of the two teams will surely take the opportunity to chain devastating dunks, blind passes, feints and other breathtaking gestures.
On the prize list, the French returned to a tie 14-14 (the first five editions had opposed East to West) against the best foreigners in the championship thanks to their series of five victories in the last six meetings. In addition to the meeting and the famous shooting at 100,000 euros, the evening will be punctuated by traditional competitions in a sold-out Bercy.
The three winners from last year put their titles back into play on Sunday: Justin Robinson (Chalon), in that of leaders, Bastien Pinault (Boulogne-Levallois), three points, but also Kevin Harley (Boulazac), in the very spectacular dunks competition. Harley will not cross the path of Travis Cohn, finalist in 2018 and absent this year. But Chima Moneke (Quimper), D.J. Stephens (Le Mans) and Isaïa Cordinier (Nanterre) will be keen to offer prodigious dunks to impress the public, appointed jury for the occasion… by the applaudimeter! “I already have some figures in mind! I trained a little. I am ready to give everything in the face of very good dunkers, ”says the Nanterrien Cordinier.
