It's a volley from Caroline Garcia who gave the Fed Cup to the France team in a decisive double against Australia this Sunday in Perth. With this 6-4 victory, 6-3 in the Mladenovic-Garcia pair against Australia's Barty and Stosur, the Blue won the third Fed Cup in their history (3-2).
Earlier this Sunday, Kristina Mladenovic had created the feat by overturning a poorly tackled match against the world No. 1 Ashleigh Barty (2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7/1)). Australia's Ajla Tomljanovic (51st) then brought the two teams tied by beating Pauline Parmentier (122) in two sets 6-4, 7-5.
The French women had triumphed in the Fed Cup in 1997 and 2003 but remained in three defeats in the final, in 2004, 2005 and 2016. This victory, from the first campaign of Julien Benneteau in the role of captain, comes to complete the season reunion between Caroline Garcia and her teammates.
