The rebound: Rennes to revive after his European disillusion
Engulfed in a black period – only one victory in their last twelve games in all competitions -, sadly eliminated from the Europa League on Thursday in Cluj (1-0), Stade Rennes and Julien Stéphan were particularly eager for their return to Roazhon Park. A stadium where Rennes was the worst home training this season with only seven points taken out of fifteen possible.
But against the Amiens (3-1), the Bretons have offered a breath of fresh air to their coach, tan in recent weeks. Adrien Hunou (39) and Mbaye Niang (62), author of his fifth goal of the season in Ligue 1, scored. Before the latter offered the goal of the break to rookie Raphinha, finally scorer with Rennes on penalty (77th). Stade Rennes moved from 15th to 10th place at three points in Angers (2nd), while Amiens, who had not lost since the 7th day, moved back to 15th place.
Player: Bouanga sees double
A goal and a decisive pass each: Ludovic Blas and Miguel Trauco were formidable at the Beaujoire during the victory of Saint-Etienne in Nantes (2-3). But a player stole the show: Denis Bouanga, author of a saving double (34th, 67th) that allows Saint-Etienne to climb the podium of the Championship, tied with points Angers (2nd). The players of Claude Puel are in great shape, they have not lost since nine games in all competitions, between L1 and Europa League (five wins, four draws).
The number: 1
Mute in Ligue 1 since May 10 in Saint-Etienne (0-1), Gaëtan Laborde has finally unlocked his goal counter this season (43) after a splendid gesture by his attacking partner Andy Delort. What put the Herault in the right direction at home against a Toulouse (3-0) largely beaten after the goals of Damien Le Tallec (59) and Téji Savanier (75). Montpellier goes back to 5th place, Toulouse is first relegated after his third loss in three games of L1.
