After the way things have unfolded in training this week, it's no surprise that four of the Steelers inactive play this game against the Los Angeles Rams.
Half-Founders James Conner and Benny Snell, Roosevelt Nix, and Ramon Foster are all on the list of inactive players. They missed training this week because of injuries and were officially dismissed on Friday.
The absence of Conner and Snell, and Nix as a blocker, leaves a hole for the ground game, but there is a certainty that others will take over.
Jaylen Samuels, Trey Edmunds and Tony Brooks-Jones will perform their duties on the ground game, and there is a lot of confidence that the "next standing player" will do his job.
"That's what it is," coach Mike Tomlin said. "We will have a semi-offensive on the field and we expect these guys to deliver for us. We have been challenged this way this year. At every turn, it seems like the guys have had the opportunity to stand up and give results. Edmunds had the opportunity to be a major contributor last week. We will see what happens this week. We are not afraid of it. We understand the position in which we find ourselves. But we expect anyone doing it to do a credible job. "
Samuels recently had a knee injury, but he is back and feels strong.
"It seems like the injury is different every week," said Samuels. "We have to develop a different plan every week. As long as we go out there and execute, everyone is doing their job, everything will be fine.
"We must execute. The guys have to put the ball where you have to run back. We have to block ahead. We have to take shots, throw and execute. It will come together.
In the absence of Foster, Matt Feiler should move from the right attack to the left guard, while Chuks Okorafor could be called to attack.
"He's a veteran," said Feiler, who had lost Foster's leadership on the field. "It's one of the types of advice we're looking for. I know he's going to stay on the sidelines to help us in every way possible. "
For the Rams, wide receiver Brandin Cooks was ruled out following a concussion. The cooks visited a specialist in Pittsburgh last week, while the team had not yet taken the test and was back in Pittsburgh earlier this week for follow-up.
Quarterback Paxton Lynch, tight half Zach Gentry and defensive back L.T. are also inactive for the Steelers. Walton.
