The team of the week in Jersey Mike for Week 6 is Middletown South, who stunned at the time-No. 2 Rumson-Fair Haven, 20-3, for a decisive win that kept his hopes of playing in the playoffs. Running back Vinny Condito and quarterback Tyler Cuccia each scored two touchdowns in the second half, while the Eagles totaled 188 yards against a still tough seventh, but that's the defense of Middletown South. was the catalyst of defeat. The Eagles forced three turnovers, including an interception return for a touchdown by Mark Tardy and a timely forced fumble by Chris Lotito that prevented a touchdown by Rumson. The Middletown South defense kept Rumson at 168 yards and scored 13 points on turnovers.

Rumson led 3-0 at halftime on a 26-yard placement from Michael Piperno before Middletown South finally took the advantage in the third quarter after the fumble recovery allowing Condito to make a touchdown of 3 yards. At the start of the fourth quarter, the Eagles concocted a 15-yard, 75-yard run that lasted nearly nine minutes and culminated with a two-yard Cuccia lead, giving Middletown South a 13-3. In the upcoming Rumson offensive, Tardy put the finishing touches on the victory by intercepting a pass and sending it 40 yards for a touchdown.

As Middletown South took over in the second half, it was a fantastic first-quarter match that started to turn the tide. Rumson, sophomore Geoff Schroeder, took his first 72-yard run to give the Bulldogs their first run on the Middletown South 12-yard line, but in the next game, Lotito hit the ball at the 1-yard line just before Rumson's backhand had crossed the goal line. The ball bounced out of the end zone for a touchdown.

To say the least, the season has been tough for Middletown South, which is entering its 7th week with a 2-4 record. Playing in the extremely tough US Division certainly contributed to this with defeats in 3rd place at Toms River North and 4th Manalapan, as well as defeats against Long Branch and St. John Vianney, but the Eagles showed how much they could to be dangerous. wins against Red Bank Catholic and Rumson.

The Eagles will be looking to get back to health early next week before getting confused with Brick (3-3 in Week 7) on Friday, November 1st in the final game of the regular season. Middletown South is currently eighth out of 16 qualified in the South Group 4 standings, so a win against the Green Dragons in two weeks should consolidate a post-season spot.
