Shots on goal were completely out of control during the 2019 season.
During the day of Thursday night, shots on goal against the Jaguars and Titans were so painful that even Tom Brady complained.
The crackdown on the league's offensive possession in 2019 resulted in a 16.2% increase in total penalties compared to the previous year, including a 66% increase in the number of penalties for offensive possession, according to ESPN.
The league seemed to agree with Tom as it would change things in the future.
Per ESPN, "The NFL held a teleconference Saturday night with its 17 referees to face a slew of flags for this season's offensive outfit, with the goal of ensuring that the entire refereeing department is on the same page. . "
Mike Pereira of Fox Sports said the teleconference was chaired by NFL senior vice president Al Riveron.
De Pereira: "Basically, he said to them," You're doing a good job based on what the Competition Committee was asking you to do: call waiting on the back of the coin, but do not overreact. When you get to the front and at the point of attack, if the hands come out, give the blockers a chance to pull themselves together inside.
"And make sure, as the rules state, that there is a material restriction before making the call."
