Williams says Kubica will be safe for 2019, to keep Russell

SILVERSTONE, England (Reuters) – Williams is committed to retaining George Russell's British Formula for the long term and has no plans to replace the driver Robert Kubica this season, deputy principal Claire Williams said at the British Grand Prix.

Faced with rumors that were going around the old champions who dropped down from their glorious past, Williams awarded speculation that the team could switch from Mercedes to Renault.

“We had no conversations about George who could leave the team in the short term because he's on a long-term contract with us,” she told reporters.

“Personally I think it's a global champion and why would I want to lose George from the team? I would do everything about my power George George to keep Williams.

“My ambition is one day to be able to provide a car for George where he can start competing at the top of the field and then for podiums,” said Williams. “George is a major part of Williams' future.”

Russell, a Formula Two champion last year, has a contract with Formula One Champions who provide Williams with their own factory team and Racing Point.

Mercedes, the five-hour Lewis Hamilton and Racing Point team could have vacancies at the end of the year.

Williams, nine builder title winners between 1980 and 1997, are the only team that has not scored in nine races this season yet.

Their car is missing and it is regularly wrapped in races, with Kubica, reversing this season after a fatal rally crash in 2011, and Russell usually only races each other.

“We're almost getting the mickey from our performance, but it's a long-term project for the team,” Russell said Thursday.

Williams said there would be no decision on the 2020 driver line until much later in the year.

“Our relationship with Robert is as strong as he was … he's doing what he has to do,” she said.

“As far as I am concerned, there is no frustration, certainly from the other side. I am convinced that there is frustration because the equipment he does not like at the moment.

“Robert is not considered to replace Robert during this season. Not sure. ”

Williams said the team hoped to bring a new partnership with Mercedes for 2021 and beyond.

The reports would not be used by former McLaren and Ferrari engineer, Pat Fry, who replaced Williams Paddy Lowe.

“We are able to look at our engineering structure and decide on the best option,” she said. “If this means introducing a new TD (technical director) we will do this but we are still in the evaluation process.” T
