Wallaby Taniela Tupou robbed phone in South Africa

Wallabies prop Taniela Tupou has slightly smaller cuts in his arm after getting the phone in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Tupou went back to the hotel in the upmarket Sandton with eight other Wallabies front rowers around 9.15 p.m. (local time) Saturday after a group dinner nearby when a man grabbed his phone.

He suffered the cuts when he tried to catch the phone back after the man had driven and climbed into a waiting car.

"Someone came right behind me and took my phone," Tupou said.

"I thought it was one of the boys, so I looked back. He had a hoodie and ran with my phone.

"I tried to chase him and he got into the car.

"I was hurt with a cut, but I'm fine. I lost my phone, but I can live with it."

Rugby Australia says the local police took statements from all the players, and they believe it was part of a series of events that night.

Wallabies are preparing to launch the Rugby World Cup with their Rugby Championship opening match against South Africa on Saturday at Ellis Park.
