Three climbs on the day of the French national holiday

-

On the day of the French national holiday the Tour de France crosses the Auvergne region, in an east-west direction, on the 9th stage between Saint-Etienne and Brioude, the town of Romain Bardet.

The rugged route of 170.5 kilometers passes through a demanding climb in the first hour. "The wall of Aurec-sur-Loire is 3,200 meters at 11%, three times the wall of Huy (famous goal of the classic Walloon Arrow)," said the race director, Thierry Gouvenou.

The next climb is much less complicated and the third and last of the day, the level of Saint-Just, which delivers bonuses (8, 5 and 2 seconds to the first three), is crowned just 13 kilometers from arrival.

"One thing is for sure, the pure sprinters will not be there," said Gouvenou, referring to the arrival in Brioude, where Bardet grew up.

The output of Saint-Etienne is scheduled at 11:05, the launch at 11:25 GMT and the arrival at Brioude at 15:31 (with a calculated average of 42km / h).
