Bournemouth have made a £12 million bid to land England goalkeeper Jack Butland, according to reports.
Several national media outlets, including our sister title The Mirror, have claimed Stoke have rejected the offer as it falls well below their £20m valuation of the 26-year-old star.
Indeed reports earlier this month even claimed the Championship outfit are holding out for £30m – having already signed Barnsley’s Adam Davies on a free transfer.
Aston Villa are also in the hunt for Butland but Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe has stolen a march by slapping in an opening bid.
Howe wants Butland to be Bournemouth’s new number one ahead of Artur Boruc and Asmir Begovic – but Stoke insist the star won’t be allowed to leave the Bet365 Stadium on the cheap.
Butland is not the only goalkeeper with whom Villa have been linked. Cardiff’s Neil Etheridge, has been linked with a reunion with his former Walsall manager Dean Smith – and positional coach Neil Cutler.

Joe Hart has also been mentioned as has Edouard Mendy, who plays for French outfit Reims and Southampton’s Alex McCarthy.
Butland knows he needs to be playing Premier League football if he is not to slip too far down the pecking order with England.
But Stoke are determined to maximise his value with boss Nathan Jones recently saying: “God willing we can keep him – and what we’ve said to Jack, I’ll make no secret of this, is that we want to keep him.

“Jack has a real high level of ability and to be in the top three goalkeepers in England, for me, it’s surprising he’s not at a Premier League club.
“But this is a Premier League club, it’s just had a difficult time over the last couple of years.)
“Jack has shown great loyalty and great desire and commitment to play for us and we would like to keep him.
“If something comes up that is too good to turn down – one) for the club and two) for Jack – then look, we are not one to stand in people’s way – but it’s got to be one hell of an offer because he’s arguably England’s best keeper.”
Play-off hero Jed Steer, who has recently signed a new contract, Lovre Kalinic and the returning Orjan Nyland all played for the club last season.
