Five Spanish sailors will compete from tomorrow, Friday 19, and until Wednesday, July 24 at the Radial Laser World Championship that takes place in Sakaiminato, Japan, and in which ten new country places will be decided for the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020

Cristina Pujol (CN Port d'Aro), Fatima Reyes (CN Arenal), Martina Reino (RCN Gran Canaria), Aina Bauzá (CV Puerto Andratx) and Ascensión Roca (RCN Torrevieja) will represent Spain before a fleet of 111 athletes of 49 countries The championship will consist of six days of competition in which it is planned to hold two races per day, to complete a maximum of 12 races.

At the end of this World Cup, the ten best countries in the final classification that still do not have a place for Tokyo 2020 will get the national ticket to be in the Japanese Olympic Games. At the moment, and thanks to the results obtained during the light sailing world championship held last summer in Aarhus, Denmark, there are already eighteen nations, in addition to Japan as a host country, classified: Germany, Belgium, Canada, China, Denmark, United States, Finland, France, Greece, Holland, Hungary, Italy, England, Norway, Poland, Switzerland, Sweden and Turkey.

Lucía Reyes, national coach of Laser Radial, says she has "Good feelings" for the World Cup. "We have been training here for a few days with medium wind and strong wind. In addition, we have been able to do training regattas with other countries and we have drawn positive conclusions. "

Reyes says that "The objective is clear: to classify the country". The national coach believes that it is a "feasible" goal. "We would have to give ourselves very badly to not get it; in all the races we have done this year we have been in the numbers that would allow us to qualify, " remark

Along with the athletes and the coach, the psychologist of the pre-Olympic team of the RFEV, Cristina Hill, has also traveled to Japan. The work he has done during these days with the athletes, according to Reyes, has been very positive. "We have worked with her doing simulations of different racing situations to know how to deal with them when they happen and now we are better prepared."
