The signing of Joao Felix by Atlético de Madrid has opened the doors of Benfica to Raúl de Tomás. Real Madrid has made official the transfer to the Portuguese club of the striker, who has played the last season on loan at Rayo. Benfica will pay 20 million and the player has committed for five years.
"The club wants to thank Raúl de Tomás for his career and his commitment since his arrival at the quarry, and wishes him good luck in his new stage, "says the statement issued by Real Madrid.
"I am very happy to be here, it was a goal that I had, to make a leap in my career and this was the best jump I could give, I'm in a big club, for me the best in Portugal and I really want to start", said De Tomás in his first statements to Benfica television.
"I want to do my work and score goals, which is the best thing I know how to do." Since I was a child, I am a forward and I hope I can score many goals with this shirt and that the club will get titles, "he added. "Everything will be different, but I'm sure I'll adapt quickly," he says.
De Tomás acknowledges that Benfica's call caught him by surprise. "I did not expect him to be interested in me. I had offers from other countries, but I wanted to play here and I'm very happy. I like Portugal. "His father's influence has been important for him to end up choosing the Portuguese champion:" He travels a lot through Portugal and has spoken to me very well about the club and the country. It's a club that marries the idea I had and wanted to be here, "he admits.
