A group of local hockey fans are collecting support to ask the City of Gijón that until now known as the track of La Algodonera to be called Sara González Lolo. In her application, the link between the award-winning player of the Telecable Gijón and the La Calzada neighborhood stands out, as well as with this track in which she began practicing this sport, as the teams from the quarry continue to do. Sara Lolo has just been proclaimed world champion with the Spanish national team, an award that joins a list of winners including European titles with both the national team and her club, as well as the leagues and cups of the Queen. It is the circumstance that the track of La Algodonera has just been totally remodeled and the promoters of this distinction consider that this would be the best moment to name the installation that will be reopened in the coming days. The works of remodeling of this track lasted more than four months and consisted basically of the change of the ground, the improvement of the illumination and the lateral eaves were increased to avoid that the rain penetrates. A minimum step was built -the regulations prevent it from becoming larger as the club intended- and the sheet metal protections of the pillars were replaced by wooden protections, as well as the railing that surrounds the track. All with a budget of 425,000 euros.J. J.
