Kalvin Phillips is demanding a handsome pay rise from Leeds United to snub interest from Aston Villa.
The 23-year-old is a transfer target for Villa who are keen to upgrade their options in central midfield ahead of the start of the new Premier League season.
Leeds want to keep Phillips, who shone under Marcelo Bielsa last term, as they line up another Championship promotion bid.
He is in talks over a new contract at Elland Road but has rejected the club’s opening offer as he wants a more lucrative deal, it is reported.

Football Insider claims Phillips wants to be paid over £30,000-a-week in a contract that brings him in line with his highest-earning teammates.
Leeds’ initial offer fell below that mark despite Phillips’ status as a key player for the club.
They are thought to be asking for as much as £30m to sell the academy graduate as this stage of the window although there is hope from his suitors that a deal could be struck for less than that.
Villa have thus far refused to meet Leeds’ valuation having already broken their transfer record once this summer to sign Brazilian forward Wesley Moraes from Club Brugge.
