The car manufacturer PSA has indicated through a letter from its president Carlos Tavares that he declaimed the call for help sent by FC Sochaux. The company said it was unable to concentrate its strength within the club, which it created in 1928, due to a difficult competitive environment.

The car manufacturer PSA has declined the call for help to save financially FC Sochaux, a football club he created in 1928, in a letter signed by its president, Carlos Tavares, published Tuesday by France Bleu Belfort- Montbeliard.

"The PSA Group has devoted all its efforts to its economic recovery and is today engaged in a transformation unparalleled in its long history", is it written in a letter of July 1 addressed to the senator-mayor of Montbéliard Louis Souvet and the former president of FC Sochaux-Montbéliard (FCSM), Jean-Claude Plessis.

"In these particularly demanding circumstances and in an exacerbated competitive environment, the group's management must devote all of its efforts and time to the company", says the president of PSA.

At the end of June, Mr. Plessis and local representatives had asked Mr. Tavares "Solemnly help us save the FCSM and its training center by re-engaging with them".

"We believe that the company that you have the honor to lead, which created the football club in 1928 and has lived for almost 90 years, today has the moral duty to help our region. put in difficulty by the hypothesis of the liquidation of this symbol which is the FCSM "they had written.

On Monday, the FCSM, demoted at first in National 1, was finally maintained in Ligue 2 on appeal by the financial police of the French football (DNCG).

"A measure of management of the wage bill and transfer allowances (transfers) budgeted for the 2019-2020 season" it has nevertheless been imposed, according to the French Football Federation (FFF).

For several months, FC Sochaux, the oldest French club in office, is facing financial difficulties and has serious governance problems.

"There is no one in the management team of people with football experience, even though in the situation you describe the FCSM particularly needs a team of experienced and seasoned leaders, from the world of football »argues Mr Tavares in his letter to the local councilors and the former president.

"For these reasons, you will understand that we can not respond to your requests"concludes Tavares.

Questioned by AFP, PSA's communications department declined to comment on this letter.
