The start of the stage began in the town of Babushkin: sports crews from 40 countries gathered here, motorcycles, quad bikes and off-road vehicles had already set off for the race, and after that trucks started.
The Minister of Sport and Youth Policy of Buryatia, Vyacheslav Damdinsurunov, welcomed the participants of the international rally: “Today we have a really big sporting event, which has not yet happened on the territory of our hospitable republic. Today, the Silk Road Rally will be held in three districts of Buryatia – Kabansky, Selenginsky and Kyakhtinsky. ”
Vladimir Chagin, director of the Silk Road project, seven-time winner of the Rally Dakar in the truck class, said that the rally participants are happy to be in Buryatia:
I see a spark in your eyes. The heat in your soul, of course, is felt and it will be transferred to our participants. It is very important. They came from more than 30 countries of our planet to see our large, huge and beautiful country. It is important that they take away interesting and pleasant memories and impressions from here. I want to thank the leadership of the republic for all the organizational work that was done together with the management. Everything is done, everything is ready. Ulan-Ude is waiting. Waiting for sports tracks. Of course, I wish everyone happiness, health, longevity and as many international events as possible to hold on the territory of Buryatia.
Tomorrow, July 9, the riders will leave the republic and go to Mongolia. But before they have to get to the village of Khargana, Selenginsky District: here the ethnofestival “Great Melodies – Great Steppe!” Is organized for guests of the race, which will bring together ensembles of Morinfurists of Mongolia and Selenga, the Chinese group “Ordos”, the ethnorok-group “Sagaan Tourlaag”, Darima Tsyrendopova and will end with a show final from the Baikal Theater, according to the Ministry of the Russian Federation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic.
Meanwhile, rally lovers are wondering if the KAMAZ-master team will once again occupy the entire pedestal in the truck standings. So it was in the last two rally "Silk Road", and the only time when the team gave someone a victory, was in 2011 – then the "gold" went to the Czech crew.
This year, four KAMAZ-master crews take part in the Silk Road rally. Among them are those who already stood on the podium of the rally last year: Andrei Karginov (“gold”), Ayrat Mardeev (“silver”) and Anton Shibalov (“bronze”). The fourth crew is headed by Sergey Kupriyanov at a gas-diesel KAMAZ.
