Heavy storms with heavy rains and thunderstorms have caused damage in parts of Germany on Friday. In Bobenheim on the mountain in Rhineland-Palatinate a tornado damaged, according to the police eleven houses, sometimes considerably. On the A4 in Thuringia 17 cars crashed during heavy rain, at least 23 people were injured, according to the police.
Elsewhere, there were landslides and floods, at the airport of Frankfurt am Main there were at times delays and occasional flight cancellations due to the storm. Weather affected by the weather were the German Weather Service (DWD), the countries of Rhineland-Palatinate, Hesse, Thuringia, Lower Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Brandenburg.
The meteorologists warned of extreme heavy rain of up to 40 liters per square meter and more. Partly hailstorm and storm gusts threatened with up to 85 kilometers per hour.
Several cars collide
In the accidents on the A4 crashed, according to the police around two junctions at Eisenach within a short time 17 cars. At least 23 people were injured, six of them seriously. Several cars were therefore on the wet road to skidding and thereby partially collided against other vehicles.
Near the Rhineland-Palatinate town of Sankt Goarshausen was, inter alia, a railway line blocked by boulders, after heavy rain and hail storms had fallen over the region. The route should probably be closed for hours. Even a nearby federal highway was affected.
Bobenheim on the mountain pulled a police tornado on Friday afternoon. Eleven houses were partly damaged massively, also cars were pulled down by falling roof tiles in affected. The officers assumed six-digit damage. (AP)
