The Mexican national football team won the Gold Cup for the eighth time. The team of coach Gerardo Martino prevailed in the final game of the continental tournament against defending champion USA 1: 0 (0: 0).
After the women's selection successfully defended the World Cup title in the World Cup final against the Netherlands, for the first time in the history of the United States Football Association both women and men could have won a title on the same day. But then Jonathan dos Santos (73 minutes) shot Mexico to victory.
"Mexico was the better team over the 90 minutes, but we started the game well and we did not have the peace and serenity," said US coach Gregg Berhalter.
For Mexico, it was the first Gold Cup title win since 2015 and the eighth overall. For the US team, in turn, it was the fifth defeat in the sixth Gold Cup final against Mexico. The only victory was in 2007.
