Federer vs. Nadal: They meet again at Wimbledon

It was Roger and Rafa's summer. Two long-awaited tennis fans are between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal – at the French Open last month and at Wimbledon on Friday.

Club All England will have their semifinal match the 40th meeting on their careers. Nadal won No. 39, French semifinal Open, to improve its record against Federer to 24-15. Before that game, Federer had had six previous meetings to win, each of them on hard-programs. They only played three times on grass – all Wimbledon finals, none since 2008.

You could remember that game.

(You can watch Friday's ESPN match, after the drum between Novak Djokovic and Roberto Bautista Agut, which starts at 8 a.m. Eastern.)

Among the main stories for Nadal-Federer:

Federer, 37, and Nadal, 33, did not play at Wimbledon in the 11 years from Nadal Federer's trial, 6-4, 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-7 (8), 9-7, in a final which is considered to be one of the biggest games in tennis history. A book and documentary about the game is called “Strokes of Genius.”

Bjorn Borg, whose Wimbledon championship 1980 is against John McEnroe is renowned for himself, called the 2008 final “The best tennis game I've ever seen in my life.”

It took 4 times 48 minutes, and is still the longest Wimbledon final. It was rained twice. It was so dark at the end, about 9:15 p.m. local time, Nadal said, “In the last game, I didn't see anything.”

The game was widely observed at the time as the torch's death. No. 2 Nadal put forward by the Federer on a clay in the French Open Final a few weeks earlier, but Federer was a step to discourage grass in Nadal's fast turn. He was the first man from Borg in 1980 to win the Open Open and Wimbledon of France in the same year. Next month, Nadal entered Federer at No. 1 in the ratings.

Ultimately, however, the torch was not passed as much as it was divided. The two are still playing each other in late rounds of majors. Since the end of 2008, Federer has achieved eight Grand Slam titles for 20, the men's record, and Nadal is behind him with 18. (Djokovic, No. 1 seed this year, 14 of his 15 major teams won a championship from Wimbledon 2008.

Federer has achieved eight single titles at All England Club, the most recent in 2017. He won five consecutive titles from 2003 to 2007, the Nadal strike with the famous 2008 championship.

Nadal Wimbledon won twice, in 2008 and 2010. He came second in 2011 and reached the semifinals last year, losing a dramatic two-day game, five sets by Novak Djokovic. But between 2011 and 2018, Wimbledon was a source of frustration for Nadal, early-stage litter, including the loss of a first round in 2013.

Nadal is ranked No. 2 and Federer No. 1 3, but at Wimbledon, their seedlings are reversed due to the competition formula, which rewards grass over a two-year period.

Nadal complained about the formula before the competition started, and when the draw came out, he seemed to have a more intense path. But since there was a strong second round match against Nick Kyrgios, Nadal was dominant. He only lost one settled in the contest, to Kyrgios. He also had no player propagated at the launch of Yuichi Sugita, Kyrgios, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, João Sousa and Sam Querrey. The average ranking for each other was 105.

Federer lost his first series of the contest that surprised that Lloyd Harris, South Africa ranked 22 years of age. Federer's only other lost version came at the beginning of his fourth quarter against Kei Nishikori who was launched by the eighth. Federer met Jay Clarke, No. 27 Lucas Pouille also and No. 17 Matteo Berrettini, one of the players was the most attractive on the grass. After Berrettini put on, 6-1, 6-2, 6-2, in 1 hour 14 minutes, Federer thanked “for the tennis lesson.”

This year, a number of significant droughts in the competition ended. After almost two years not playing each other, Federer and Nadal will meet for the first time in five weeks. They were 11 years old without playing at Wimbledon. They had gone eight years between games at the French Open. They did not face each other at the US open route. Is this the year?
