Serie A Impressed at Copa America
Paulo Dybala thinks he’s proved that he can play alongside Lionel Messi in the Argentina national team.
The Juventus forward was barely used during the World Cup last summer but scored the decisive goal of the Copa America third-place playoff this year.
“I think I’ve shown that I can play with Messi,” Dybala told Argentinian newspaper Ole.
“It’s a question of knowing each other better, of finding some chemistry, of seeing where and how each of us moves.”
Like Messi, Dybala also underlined the poor officiating throughout the tournament in Brazil as Argentina went out in the semi-finals.
“We started badly and had to rally, and we eventually deserved more than third place,” Dybala said.
“But, because of the situations that came about, we ended up in [third].
“If things were done to make one team win or not, I don’t know if we’re going to know. But there are doubts and it’s ugly.”
Dybala was able to link well with Messi and Aguero in Argentina’s attack.
“There was a good system of play. It happened with Leo against Chile and also with Kun [Aguero],” Dybala went on.
“Before the game, we spoke about these movements, with one staying further forward and the other dropping deep to get the ball. We did things well. I’m happy.”
