Chelsea Women Vs Spurs Women To Be Played At Stamford Bridge

Chelsea Women will play Spurs women at Stamford Bridge on September 8th, the first weekend of the Women’s Super League, and tickets will be free for fans.

There’s no doubting that the recent Women’s World Cup has caught the attention of plenty of football fans that previously had little interest in the sport. The next step for the game in England is to get more interest in the Women’s Super League.

To kick that off 2017/18 WSL champions Chelsea will kick off their 2019/20 campaign with a home match against Spurs with the game being played at Stamford Bridge and tickets being free.

Chelsea will have England World Cup stars Fran Kirby, Millie Bright and Carly Telford in their squad, as well as Eli Cuthbert from Scotland’s squad and many others who played in the tournament in France.

The Blues sent 12 players to the competition in total, with only Barcelona and Lyon supplying more players.

Spurs were in the FA Women’s Championship last season and won promotion to the top tier after finishing second behind Manchester United Women, it will be the first season the north London club have been fully professional.

With the match being played on September 8th it won’t clash with either club’s men’s teams playing as it is an international week, with England playing Bulgaria at Wembley on the 7th.

It will be a big step up in size of ground compared to where Chelsea Women usually play, the 4,500 Kingsmeadow, home of AFC Wimbledon, being their usual home ground.

Manchester City also open their season at the ground that is usually just for their men’s team in a huge derby day game.

The visitors, on September 7th, will be newly promoted Manchester United, managed by former England star Casey Stoney.

After Phil Neville’s team captured the hearts of many it’s important that women’s football is given a much better spotlight.

Now is the time that the sport capitalises on the interest being shown in it.
