Arsenal have made contact with Gremio over the signing of Walter Kannemann, according to reports in Brazil.
The centre-back was first linked with Arsenal at the start of the year, as Unai Emery bids to bolster his defensive options this summer.
Shkodran Mustafi is thought to be facing the axe and Globo Esporte claim Arsenal have been in touch with Gremio with a view to signing Kannemann.
Arsenal have been tracking Kannemann for some time and Gremio value the 28-year-old at around £12million.
That asking price should be feasible for Arsenal, despite reports the Gunners have just £45m to spend this summer.
Emery is hoping to raise further funds by offloading some of his first-team players and Kannemann could be a direct replacement for Mustafi, were Arsenal to find a buyer for the German.
Arsenal though will face competition from Premier League rivals Wolves, who have also shown an interest in the defender.
Emery has identified several options in defence, with Arsenal linked with Barcelona’s Samuel Umtiti and Saint-Etienne’s William Saliba.
