ROCHESTER – The 3-seeded Schaeffer Academy Lions swept the single brace to get a 6-1 victory over the 6-seeded Fairmont cardinals under a 1A team. Meet the boys tennis quarter final on Friday night.
Schaeffer Academy (13-4) goes on to face No. 2 seed St. James Area in a semifinal section of 11 am on Monday at Swanson Tennis Center at Gustavus Adolphus College campus in St. Peter.
St. James Area achieved the semi-finals via a 5-2 victory over the Blue Earth Area on Thursday.
The Fairmont finished the double segment of the season with a 6-10 overall record.
Tyrell Zieske, who passed transition from No. 1 singles to No. 1 doubles, and Pete Ortega combined court competencies to deliver Fairmont's only point in the meeting.
Zieske and Ortega outslugged Brady Zimmerman and Faith Monson in the opening set 7-5 before the Lions & # 39; tandem rallied for a 6-4 second-set win. Zieske and Ortega caught the team tally by pocketing a 10-6 tiebreaker.
Schaeffer Academy's Benjamin Jawer was Fairmont's Aaron Hendricks in the second extra-session match of No. 4 singles.
Jawer picked up the opening by a 7-5 decision before Hendricks came rushing back to collect a 6-3 second-seen win. Jawer eventually caught the team points through a 10-6 decision.
Dane Bothun and Luke Bothun delivered single points to the Schaeffer Academy from No. 1 and 2 positions in the lineup.
Dane Bothun made a 6-2, 6-0 decision on Cardinals & # 39; Ameya Komaragiri, who had moved from his usual No. 2 single seat to No. 1 while Luke Bothun netted a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Blake Haugen at second position in the bracket. Haugen got the transition from his usual no. 3 position.
Annie Orvis reeled off a 6-1, 6-3 triumph over Thomas Klanderud's No. 3 singles to round off Lions' winning ways in solo matches. Klanderud moved up a seat from his usual no. 4 position.
