Indoor tennis court tape cutting next week | News


Norman residents and tennis enthusiasts are invited to attend the Norman City for a tape cutting and grand opening celebration of the newly completed Westwood Indoor Tennis Facility.

The ceremony begins at. 10.00 Friday with an address from Mayor Lynne Miller and comments from Norman Chamber of Commerce President Scott Martin, Norman Tennis Pro Marc Claudé and Oklahoma US Tennis Association President Bill Towler.

After the tape cutting, participants are invited to enjoy refreshments and self-guided tours in the new facility. A ceremonial first serving at the new courts will be observed and a site for door prizes will be held.

The 15,000 square foot facility is a Norman Forward project financed through a half-room tax approved by the Norwegian voters in October 2015. The building contract was awarded to Flintco for DKK 1,366,714 in August 2018. This facility is the city's first drawstring structure and functions two new USTA sanctioned indoor tennis courts, reflected LED lighting, a spectator area and an energy efficient heating and air conditioning system. The project also included the construction of two new outdoor USTA standard lanes with lighting, fences and bleaching areas, which were completed in 2018 before the new indoor facility's building.
