Hamburger SV and coach Hannes Wolf are going their separate ways. Ralf Becker, sports director of the second division football team, said, "Hannes Wolf wanted us to make a decision this week and we agreed to separate at the end of the season."
After the missed goal of the season – the immediate return to the Bundesliga – the CEO Bernd Hoffmann and Becker drew the expected consequences. The home game against MSV Duisburg on Sunday will be the farewell performance for the 38-year-old coach.
Already after the 0-3 home defeat just two weeks ago against relegation-threatened FC Ingolstadt, the Aus had indicated for Wolf. Becker moved away from the coach for the first time after he and Hoffmann had always excluded a separation from the native Bochum in recent weeks and months. Then followed last Sunday the 1: 4 in Paderborn and the failure in the promotion battle, which accelerated the sporting end for Wolf.
The HSV had Wolf in October as a successor to Christian Titz brought and equipped with a contract until June 30, 2020. Titz had not been credited by the club's superiors after ten match days to return to the first league. The team under Titz had still brought on average 1.80 points. Wolf's cut was far below 23 games with 1.52 points. In the second half (16 points in 16 games) only 1.0 points.
