The Ninth International Silk Road Rally Marathon will start on July 6 in Irkutsk, and finish in the Chinese city of Dunhuang, in ancient times considered the gate of the Great Silk Road.
The distance that the participants of the rally will have to cover in 10 stages is more than 5000 kilometers. The racing caravan will pass across the expanses of Eastern Siberia, along the picturesque Lake Baikal, and through Ulan Bator from north to south will cross Mongolia.
For the fourth time, participants will compete for the “White Tiger” – a prize for winners and prize-winners, established in 2016. Traditionally, the KAMAZ-master team will present the multiple winner of the “Silk Road” and “Dakar” in the truck class in Russia in the race marathon.
On the eve of the race, the organizers at a press conference in Moscow told about the preparations for the upcoming event.
– It is nice to know that during these 10 years “Silk Road” has created the opportunity to communicate with representatives of different countries. This year Mongolia appeared in our route. This will be a new acquaintance with the natural landscape. Many dream to visit Lake Baikal – this year such dreams are feasible. I want to thank everyone who helps us in organizing this grand sporting event – these are the Government of the Russian Federation, the Government of Mongolia, the Government of China, the Ministry of Sports of these countries. Of course, operational work is very important from the regions where the race takes place, their support. The launch ceremony will take place on the central square of Irkutsk, – said Vladimir Chagin, head of the Silk Road rally.
– A large number of executive bodies take part in the preparation for the rally. In Russia, we are waiting for two exciting stages of the race. “The Ministry of Sports will closely monitor it,” said Boris Grishin, director of the department for state regulation of sports and international cooperation at the Ministry of Sport of the Russian Federation.
“The Mongolian side deeply assesses the significance of this project, and is confident that this great sporting event is a vivid symbol of relations between our peoples,” noted the Acting Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Mongolia to the Russian Federation Ochirma Ochirbat.
“This year we are waiting for a very important event – the introduction of a motorcyclists offset,” said Sergey Ivanov, director of the Russian Automobile Federation.
Anastasia Nifontova will represent Russia in the motorcycle standings.
– Naturally, I am very serious preparation for the race, training takes a lot of time. Moscow is now the best weather to prepare. At the same time, we are looking for an opportunity to recapture the budget, because participation in the rally is costly, ”said Nifontova.
The crews of Anton Shibalov, Airat Mardeev and Andrey Karginov will come out from KAMAZ-master at the start of the rally.
Speaking about the route, Chagin noted that one of the most interesting parts of the race would be a stage on Lake Baikal, because here there is a rare chance to sit quietly on the lake with a fishing rod. “I wish the participants to successfully cope with their responsibilities so that there is enough time for fishing,” said Chagin.
– We will be in Buryatia. If you're lucky, the participants will see the settlements of local shamans, the project manager added.
July 9-11, participants will pass through Mongolia, and on July 13 they will cross the border of China.
Frederik Lekien, Deputy Head of the International Silk Road Rally project, noted that in addition to the competition of professionals, this time the amateur standings will also be introduced.
