Meet the first round of the draft with expectations

-

NASHVILLE – Little space for surprises in the opening round of the 2019 Draft: Kyler Murray was chosen by the Arizona Cardinals as the first overall pick, defensive players invaded the NFL and most teams met expectations.

Murray will join Cardinals rookie coach Kliff Kingsbury, who has been trying to recruit him since his high school days at Texas Tech.

On Friday, the collegiate recruitment continues with the second and third rounds, in which good talent is still visible, particularly in positions such as defensive players and receivers. Photo: Getty.

"It's a dream come true," said Murray. "You work since you put your helmet on for the first time in your life and I'm ready for the challenge."

A total of 18 defensive players were drafted in a draft that was full of talent on that side of the ball, including five defensive wings and an equal number of defensive tackles; four linebackers; three perimeter players, and one nose tackle.

The The Oakland Raiders took advantage of their three first-round picks to lead defensive tackle Clelin Ferrell of Clemson University, along with Alabama runner Josh Jacobs, the only one in his first-round position among the 32 teams, and shut down with safety Jonathan Abram of Mississippi State.

This is the second time that four defensive players between linemen and linebackers were recruited among the first five and the second time that seven players from those same positions were among the top 10 options.

The first defensive player was the one that most expected, wing Nick Bosa, who will play for the San Francisco 49ers, followed by tackle Quinnen Williams, who will work for the New York Jets.

The Jacksonville Jaguars took linebacker Josh Allen, who was the Defensive Player of the Year in collegiate football and the Pittsburgh Steelers traded 10 positions up to get the University of Michigan linebacker Devin Bush.

The New York Giants had to maneuver to acquire a third option in the initial round, which began with the quarterback who will soon replace Eli Manning, Duke University's Daniel Jones.

"It will be a privilege to learn from a future Hall of Famer," he said in an exclusive interview with ESPN Deportes Radio. "Eli Manning has won everything in this league, he is a leader and I have to follow his work routine step by step to try to bring me closer to his level."

The Giants continued in option 17 with the second of Clemson's three defensive linemen, tackle Dexter Lawrence and Georgia cornerback DeAndre Baker, in 30th place, who got in trade with the Seattle Seahawks.

This Thursday there were six exchanges, led by the Seattle Seahawks that came to the Draft with five options and ended with nine, including eight from the second round.

Only three quarterbacks were recruited this Thursday; Murray, Jones and Dwayne Haskins for the Washington Redskins.

In total 14 attack players, where the offensive tackles were the majority with four.

Three schools saw three alumni elected in the honor round: Alabama, Clemson and Mississippi state.

On Friday, the collegiate recruitment continues with the second and third rounds, in which good talent is still visible, particularly in positions such as defensive players and receivers.
